Rachel’s 30 years of experience in social care began as a care assistant in a local authority care home and progressed through to become Registered Manager. In 2002 she became Services Provider Manager with Warwickshire County Council where she was responsible for the 10 homes they owned.
During these years Rachel’s passion in dementia care developed into a focus for finding better ways to support people with dementia and started to consider how the people caring for them could benefit from adapted techniques and different methods of working. Subsequent senior management roles in both the private and voluntary sector led Rachel to her last role as Service Manager for the award winning and outstandingly recognised WCS Care Group.
Early toolkits to improve the wellbeing of people with dementia and the teams caring for them took shape and were deployed within Rachel’s homes providing benefits and improvements in outcomes for both residents and service providers. These toolkits form the basis of Adventure with Dementia’s improvement services and are under continual development today through execution, observation and measurement, providing thought leadership in the care of people with dementia.
Rachel co-founded ‘Adventure with Dementia’ during 2017 with the mission to develop and promote an innovative powerful and emotive way for care teams to engage with people living with dementia.
